5. 요약

In recent years, there has been growing interest in lightweight
threads, especially user-level threads (ULTs), in order to deal with
massive on-node parallelism with lower context-switch cost. In this
talk, we will introduce Argobots, a low-level lightweight threading
and tasking framework, developed at Argonne National Laboratory and
then will present our experience in OpenMP and MPI with Argobots
regarding how each programming model can take advantage of lightweight
work units (ULTs and tasklets) and how they can interoperate over a
new threading model different from the existing one (e.g., Pthreads).
We have implemented an OpenMP runtime by modifying the Intel OpenMP
runtime with Argobots and an MPI runtime by changing MPICH to support
Argobots as a threading interface. Preliminary experimental results
show that our OpenMP and MPI implementations with Argobots achieve
better performance in applications that have nested parallelism,
dynamic task parallelism, or fine-grained communications.

6. 연사약력

Dr. Sangmin Seo is an Assistant Computer Scientist at Argonne National
Laboratory in the Programming Models and Runtime Systems group led by
Dr. Pavan Balaji. His research interests include high-performance
computing, parallel programming models, compilers, and parallel
runtime systems. He received the B.S. degree in computer science and
engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and
computer science from Seoul National University in 2007 and 2013,
respectively. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree, he spent half a year
as a CEO at ManyCoreSoft Co., Ltd and then joined Argonne National
Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher.
