Welcome to the School of Information and Communication Engineering at
Sungkyunkwan University.
Our outstanding faculty, facilities and programs allow us to provide the
highest quality education covering
all important fields in information and communication engineering and
science.
Today, we have approximately 1,100 full-time undergraduate and 300 graduate
students (230 in Master Degree program and 70 Ph.D. program) including 43
graduate students from Samsung Electronics (Semiconductor Division) Joint
Program.
Our faculty pool is truly impressive. Every member holds doctorate awarded
from renowned international/domestic academic institutions. Among them, 2
members were elected as a chairperson of prestigious journals; several
members hold chief editorial positions of high quality engineering and
science journals. Also, many have received distinguished national teaching
and research award.
In 2000 our school launched a collaborative project with the Semiconductor
Division at Samsung Electronics, which has led to the initiation of degree
programs and several agreements on follow-up cooperation. We are planning
to extend the project to other selected Divisions in Samsung Electronics
and relevant Industries.
The School of Information and Communication Engineering is located in a
beautiful, garden style campus, which is in 30-minute commute distance from
the center of the capital city, Seoul. The calm and nice setting
inside the campus and the vicinity also provides the students with high
quality school life and extracurricular activities.
In its ongoing effort for maintaining its role as a leading academic
institution of Korea, the School seeks to continuously improve its teaching
and research facility, as well as its organization to make the teaching and
research program as enjoyable and fruitful as possible. For this, we are
hiring about five to ten new faculty members each year.
Since 1998 (the year of 600th anniversary)-- through intensive outreach to
middle- and high school communities and various attractive scholarship
programs -- we have significantly increased the freshman enrollment while
also improving the average aptitude test score and the class ranking of
incoming freshmen. We are also deeply committed to diversify our student
and faculty pool, and recruit and retain individuals from traditionally
under-represented populations. Moreover, we continue to expand our
infrastructure, space for classrooms, research labs and offices since last
several years while renovating existing facilities to ensure they are truly
state-of-the-art.
It is my hope that all the students who study at the Sungkyunkwan
University explore the new frontiers and opportunities, which enables them
to put a bridge between such interdisciplinary research areas of
information and telecommunication. Now, explore our web site

Communication Engineering at the Sungkyunkwan University.
Best Wishes,
Dean of the School of Information and Communication Engineering
Dong-Ryeol Shin, Ph.D.
